What am I missing?

This bead was part of an ensemble that sold at a fairly high price on ebay yesterday. The patterns on the bead are not similar to the rare chiselled phenolic beads from Mauritania. Or is this a Mauritanian phenolic amber bead?

  • Oh i see that many of us from the forum were competing on these sales!!!

Very noteworthy tuareg items, especially the big cross!

I guess that you are not missing anything here Preethi, seems to be a classical use of a loose exotic bead by some tuareg (?) lady!!

Indeed the plastic bead (don't think it is phenolic) is very rare in this shape and is more moorish than tuareg

Last thing is that we can be in front of a chimera from some dealer!

    Both possibilities are likely!

We need Ait to comment on the use of those big rings and maybe Sarah to throw a comment on those blue beads...

  • I was following the auction for my information and wasn't interested in bidding as I already have a few tisek. But when the piece went for the price it went for, I wondered if I missed something ha ha.

I didn't think the yellow bead was one of the rare Mauritanian phenolic ones and thought the blue ones were Indian. But I could be wrong.

Curious to hear what Sarah and Rabah have to say.

  • splendid necklace.the mauritanian bead is not amber, it is a phenolic

the blue ones are trade beads.i saw the phenolic and the blue ones only ones in Hoggar. a tuareg seller was offering them. the phenolic was not decorated. just plain. he had only 3 pieces

the rings are splendid too, they are getting difficult to got now. the total with the leather is very special. we see that people add always more pieces when they get the opportunity, it makes their jewelry individuel.

the carnelian is fron idar oberstein, special cuted for this rings and it is not a broken talhakimt

the rings are made in 2 parts, the one with stone alone and the one under it, starting from the flat area is made alone, forged in one pice of silver. heating and hammering

    later od, soldered together

  • 700 euro is a good price for buyer. the rings are now over 200 euro a piece, and add the beads +phenolic and the leather band, also the complet colection. so 700 is ok to pay for

regarding the mauritanian bead, i have a mauritanian trader visiting me next week, i will aske for more infos

  • i bidding  on  all of them~but   have not  win.however i  got   2   group  of   berber  cross,lol.
