  • What a beauty, now with the chaine and this grandiose bachground and atmosphere, we see how beautiful it is

I see atleast 1 hallmark in front and 2 in the back
  • If you check the chaine, you will find some hallmarks too
  • Yes, you are right, there are at least three hallmarks on the pendant (possibly a third, but I need to check with a magnifying glass. At a first glance I did not find any hallmarks on the necklace, though I am sure its silver. The chain has been repaired in several places though, it even looks as if some elements/rings have been replaced.

What puzzles me is the stone. I'm not sure if its real turquoise or mottled glass- somehow it looks more like its glass. Similar pieces I have seen so far usually had a coral at the centre...

  • This is a really nice Tunisian piece with wonderful old silver patina. Great find!

  • Nice one - I like the shape and the turquoise in the middle.

  • Thank you Ait, Toya and Tanja. I actually like the old chain as much as the pendant (9 x 4.5cm). It's large and heavy (the links have a diameter of 0.8cm) and very worn, including several repairs.

Does anyone perhaps happen to know more about the original function of these pendants and what they are called?

  • This is originally a head ornament.  It is called "chantba" from the Guermessa region.  See my photos for a matching pair.

  • Thank you very much Edith - I saw your pair. It's gorgeous!

Do you think that my example also was originally done with coral (perhaps later replaced), or do you commonly find "chantbas" with turquoise stones?
