Tunisian Jewish amulet

At first I thought that it was part of a fish server set. But it is not thick enough and, then, there are those letters in Hebrew on top. The chain seems to be a more recent addition. It was sold to me as a Tunisian Jewish (home) amulet but any other suggestions will be much appreciated ...

  • Unusual and very finely worked. I like it a lot. Maybe someone can read the inscription?

    It does look a bit like a fish server though - and that would be quite fitting with the fish swimming in the middle :)

  • If I am not mistaken, the word could be SHADAI (one of God's names in Hebrew) whose initials stand for the words "Shomer Daltot Israel" (Keeper of the doors of Israel). But maybe someone else knows more...

  • Thanks a lot for your nice comments. Another lucky Ebay find some years ago. @Betty - You are very right about the meaning of the letters on top of the amulet. I just found it in a book on amulets.
