A traditional bridal costume from Izmit/Kocaeli. Late-Ottoman style, first half of 20th century.Set up around a pink silk robe, which is adorned with large roses in silver thread embroidery, golden spirals & metal sequins; white silk threads connect the sequins, creating branch-like motifs. The silk belt with silver buckles is worked with copper sequins and small spiral copper thread.The necklace features copper imitation coins and clove. (Kavak Costume Collection -Antwerpen/Belgium).   • 2506039157?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Close-up of the costume. Specific bridal elements are the red headscarf adorned with metal sequins, and the necklace with copper imitation coins and clove.  The clove is used because of its pleasant smell, which is symbolically transferred to the bride.
