I was surprised to find that these were most likely made in South India. I have always associated filigree work with Bengal/east India. But then I found very similar work inventoried in Thomas Holbein Handley's work on Indian jewellery from the late 1800's, and he attributes this work to Madras presidency in south India.
The Madras Presidency covered Tamil Nadu, north Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, southern Orissa and southern Karnataka.
