An appreciation of ethnic jewellery and adornment
I bought this bracelet because I liked its shape and simple engraving. It was described as coming from the Bwa in northern Burkina Faso. However it also seems to me that it has some tuareg component. What do you reckon?

Comment by Harald on March 14, 2013 at 13:28 It has the shape of bracelets from the Tamil Nadu, India. It is a lovely shape but from else were, a modern bracelet I think. I have seen this shape type used also for modern rings.
Comment by Joost Daalder on March 14, 2013 at 13:16 This looks quite new to me, though I may be wrong. However, wherever it was made, I like the shape, and can understand that that prompted you to buy it.
@Ait - I am sorry to hear that the Spanish bracelet was a sham. I am glad thought that you spotted it in time!!.
Thank you all for your comments and thoughts.
@Chantal - Yes, I saw it on Ebay some weeks ago I doubted a little bit and it was not clear to me but, at the end, I found the shape quite appealing.
Comment by Harald on November 10, 2012 at 16:49 Nice, the form is that of the Vanku= armlets of Maharashtra woman. Have they seen this type of bracelets in Burkina Faso. I saw this design also in Indonesia used for "modern" rings. Well the books about ethnic jewelry are now by now known in all countries and, I suppose, used to copy for new jewelry.

Jose, was it on sale on ebay about a couple of months ago? I was very tempted as I think that the seller had mentioned "Tuareg" but it didnt look Tuareg to me (with my limited knowledge. Also no such things in any of my books on Tuareg art.).........So I left it.
