yes,  Mapuche from south America- Chile, Peru or Ecuador, etc.

Years ago i used to have a whole set including pendants, cloak pins, and chain necklaces. i finally identified them from searching through books. they are quite grand! the symbolism may include christian crosses, but on mine, like yours, the birds appeared more important.

this is a traditional pendant from Peru.

when i get to my notes i will find the name of the tribe.

Dear Penny; This is a wonderful piece. I believe that it is originating from Chile or maybe also Bolivia. I have seen once a similar piece in Jerusalem and while I did not purchase it then (it was terribly expensive), I researched it accordingly. This should be high silver - both Chile and Bolivia are known for their silver. With kind regards. Peter
