High silver Saudi pieces like these are very rare. The pendant is heavy, solid silver, with a Maria Theresa Thaler as a base.

  • Beautiful piece, Peter. Thanks for the photo of the back. Very interesting to see how these pieces are constructed

  • Beautiful pendant (that also reminds me a bit of Rashaida pieces for some reason) and interesting mean bracelet. Thanks you for sharing and best wishes, Betty

  • Dear Peter, such refined details on the decoration of the Thaler, just look at the little rosettes the way they have attached the bails, and the center piece. Real outstanding. Like Betty mentioned it does remind of decorated thalers of Yemen and Ethiopia. But it is a step higher. GR. Ingrid.

  • Dear Thelma, Betty and Ingrid; Many thanks for your comments. This is indeed a Rashaida piece and I should have identified it as such - my apologies. This is also why it resembles the pendants of Yemen and Ethiopia. I have posted some other pendants on EJ before, one with a Maria Theresa Thaler and the other with what I believe is an antique French coin (but I will have to investigate this further at home with the right material, books, etc.). This particular piece is very heavy and when on a string, it gives a very "rich" sound. In my humble opinion, this particular piece is the best of its kind in my collection. I bought it here in Al Khobar. This particular dealer, a Pakistani gentleman, has some other pieces, which are quite special but he is not cheap... He told me that he is expecting new "deliveries" soon.... With kind regards. Peter
