PECTORAL - YEMEN

This is a fancy pectoral indeed, mounted on the original fabric. Each piece is fully made by hand. Most of these pieces which can be found nowadays on the market, are featuring stamped decorations. However, this particular unit is featuring all single made rosettes and dangles. Very rare indeed!

  • Very beautiful, Peter. Such fine work and lovely to see it with the original cloth attached. I also love the amber/resin(?) beads which contrast nicely with the silver and the red of the cloth.

It just inspired me to show my own, more humble, version. Kind regards, Betty.

  • Hi Peter, What a stunning necklace, and the intriqued work.  Certainly not a half work piece.  I have never seen it with a cloth behind. What I also admire is the way they have linked the elements with each other preventing loss of a piece.  Very thoughtful.  I do have one as well (no cloth attached though) and   going to have a better look at it, and maybe post it.  I love the soft glow in general. Gr. Ingrid.

  • I love to see these mounted on cloth. The red cloth looks like that supplied years ago by  Russia for Central Asia, you see a lot of it in their older jewelry. Now that I think of it, it also looks like the red cloth used to cover  the peraks of Ladakhi women. I wonder if it has the some origin. Does anybody know?
