Patina

I love the wear on jewels, the type of wear which shows daily use... the top one of the two bracelets ion this picture has incredible wear... ... do you also have pieces which have this kind of evidence of daily use? Post a pic of patina!!

  • Sarah, I completely agree.  I love to see pieces which show the woman treasured them daily for much of her life.  On a beautiful jewel, this kind of treasured wear makes me like them all the more.  The first bracelets I acquired that show this evidence of daily ornament are these Ethiopian silver bracelets from Dessie.  The second is a pair of Indian cuffs I will post soon after I finish cleaning.

  • Dear Sarah; These are great bracelets. As mentioned many times in my postings, I prefer jewelry which show the wear and tear. Also, I love to see when a jewelry item has been maintained - it shows the care which went into and the love towards them. The below anklets are over 100 years old. They are Rashaideh Coptic anklets, which used to be on display at the University Museum of Nijmegen NL and part of the collection of Mr Heidt. They show great wear - the end pieces show actually holes from the daily wear. However, I am impressed that the bodies of both anklets are still in top shape. This photo has been taken before cleaning them. They are high silver and have a fabulous glow once I have only slightly polished them (I always ensure to keep the original patina and only remove the unwanted dirt to show the patterns well). With kind regards. Peter
