OTTOMAN BELT BUCKLE 1

This is a very large, high silver and extremely rare Ottoman belt buckle. One does not see it well on this photo, but there is a purple velvet arranged between the first and the second layer. This buckle comes from a private collection and I was fortunate to be offered to buy 4 of them, which I did (of course...). I have posted another one and will purchase the other 2 next month.

  • I love this belt. In some ways the buckle itself reminds me of an oyster shell .... the different layers stacked up one on top of the other.. and the decorative chains so, so elegant. It looks as if the original collector has kept it perfectly.

  • This looks to me as though it could be Crimean Tatar. Tatar jewellery is regularly not recognised, as it is getting very little attention, but this is of that type.

  • Dear Joost; Many thanks for your interesting comment! I have many Ottoman belts and buckles. This buckle, together with the other 3 buckles are different to my other buckles. They are slightly oversized, very heavy and all feature a colorful velvet between the second last and last silver layer. All this makes these buckle very special and therefore, I can associate to your comment Joost. I will follow-up your very interesting comment when I am at my home next month. With kind regards. Peter
