  • what a lovely picture. and,,,,now we know, good thing it is padded, Thank you Edith.  Also the young girl, so pretty with cheeky eyes. Lovely.

  • I believe this is a ritual piece...but perhaps someone else out there can correct me if I am wrong.  The girl in the photo is participating in a religious rite in which she becomes the bride of Vishnu.  My understanding is that this provides her with some type of spiritual protection, but this information is just based upon information I found previously on the internet.

  • Oh my goodness. Thankyou so much for finding the source of this, and particularly Edith D for posting the photo. I'm thrilled.  How old do you think it is ... or timeless?

  • No idea how old, but it is a nice piece!

    Kumari,Nepal

  •   Yes this is from Nepal and used both in ritual kumari style as below and or sometimes used in festival parades. The style of this one is different in the central image is a bit nontraditional in that usually you see the cloth through the design in the front as well the motif and shape of the plaques are not as flat as these.  This might have been crushed a bit and or the style is a bit later maybe. It looks vintage and old but just different than the usual versions of which I have sold several.  Linda
