Nice collection. The one on top near the loop with the box and little circle, very sweet, have not seen one like that before. They are such warm pieces. Love them. Also the one right underneath the Tigrai/Eritrean guilded one is not too common, not too many around. Do not quite know which area but I think Wollo not bordering Tigrai.
@Thanks Ingrid for the interesting info, I appreciate it very much. I got them from various different sources. The bigger boxes were given to me by Akkie, one bead was from Sarah, some from Hillary (all members of this Website), and the rest I bought from various sources. The new additions (in the middle, loose, from which you commented two specially) were brought from Ethiopia just recently by my special source, from whom I have most of my hairpins. I chose them because they are different from the other ones I have. This time my seller only found two hairpins.... they seem to get rare. You say the guilded telsums are Tigrai/Eritrean? (I thought Tigray because of the Granulation and guilding, but could it also be Eritrea? I have no idea, I am just interested in knowing - thank you).
Eritrea had only the guilded granulated ones. I will show you one original necklace given to me by a lady as part of her engagement dowry, about 70 yrs.ago. In Tigrai they wear both the lovely silver ones and the guilded ones (mostly in the towns.)
I just looked at your photo, with the Eritrean Engagement necklace, it is unbelievable! I have no words, it is such a beautiful Piece. I prefer this type (with the small, detailed telsums) to necklaces with big Pendants. I am not for the huge things...but the tiny sweet ones.....and this necklace is exactly that way!

SInce Betty and Ingrid have joined Ethnic, the Ethiopian (and Eritrean) jewels have become more present here. I am very pleased about this, so I can learn a lot, and at the same time I enjoy it to see all These beautiful items! Thank you too, ladies.

@thank you Preethi. I must confess that I like the type of necklace called "well-balanced" (with the same type of telsums all around, it does look very nice, especially to wear). I would also like to know (the question you wrote under Ingrid's beaufiful necklace) whether crosses make sometimes part of such necklaces in general, or whether this was a personal decision. It is nice to discuss on These items and get the most possible info about them! Love that.

Eva Baby, looking great. you have just combined the different ethnic people together. Actually just as they live. They live as good neighbours and friends,but do not marry each other. Also many necklaces worn by the traditional (often countryside) women, do add all kind of finds onto their necklaces. I have seen, buttons, bicycle glass etc. specially if they like the object and it fits with their colors. So your result looks,wild, warm and joi de vivre(?) Love it.
