This photo was taken during a rice planting ritual called "Hudoq Festival"on the upper Mahakam river basin, Busang/Bahau tribe of Dayak, East Borneo - early 1970's

The Dayaks begin piercing the ears of a child at around 1 to 2 years old, over the years the size and weight of the earrings will increase, thus....distended earlobes
