Woman's belt buckle. Late-Ottoman, silver, with a 'tuğra'-stamp (sultan's seal), ca. late 19th c. Probably from Edirne, possibly from a Bulgarian workshop. The shape, with its characteristic 'wavy' edge is rare in Turkish buckles, but a common shape in Bulgarian ones. The unusual motifs of towers with pointed roofs may refer to the 16th century 'Adalet Kasrı' (Justice Pavilion), a remain of the sultans palace in Edirne, which still is a landmark of the city.
