  • Striking necklace Betty, so much work involved and done with such skill and so many different technics

used.  I always feel so sorry that so much talent and work wasn't done in good silver metal. It deserves it so... Beautiful Betty. Gr. Ingrid.

  • Thank you Ingrid, I've had it for a while, but never got round to post a picture. Peter's more fancy versions inspired me to show this one, too :-)

Your thoughts on talent & material made me think ... I wonder whether the fact that a lot of beutiful items were made of mixed metals were done with as much attention to detail as those made of precious metals wasn't, in a way, very "democratic" ? (And in line with the fact that the symbolic functions of the jewels, too, did not dependent on the material, but the colour or shape etc.).

We live at a time when most hand-made and beautiful items have become luxury goods that can only be paid for by very few people on this planet. In the Western world work itself (as time) has become the main factor determining the price, not so much the materials used. In the old days people's work was relatively cheap, so even a lot of things, even humble ones, could be made with care and attention to detail. That way, there was perhaps more beauty in everyday life than today....

Sorry for rambling .... I am trying to escape from an unloved task :)
