  • Kuwari pendants are a type of talisman to ward off evil.  Usually, one is worn on the back, and another centered at the naval in front.  Typically these are suspended from a thin cord that loops over the shoulders and around the waist.  Kuwari pendants are found in many different sizes for children and adults.  They frequently have holes in the center to run the cords instead of the eyelets seen on the ones above.  I was told by the person from whom I purchased these the following information, which so far is not collaborated by any of my books.  According to the seller, the above Kuwari were not meant to be worn in sets since they are small pendants for infants.  Only one is centered on the naval with a cord wrapped around the waist of the baby.

The "Seal of Solomon" design on the left was apparently an imported symbol brought by Arab traders.  The symbol on the right resembles both Islamic geometric designs and Hindu mandala designs.
