  We were anxious about buying these upper arm cuffs because there are good looking fakes around so are delighted they are the real thing. I read somewhere that the early Kabyle pieces had less enamel than more recent but it was the stamping that made me feel instinctively they were original.  The pins have already been replaced (by Faouzy) ... with rounded tops. What is the Kabyle story?  How old would this pair be?

  they are actualy for the feets, alled irdifen or ikhelkhalen

  very nice quality, not copy, authetic and gppd purshassing, they could be at least before 1940

  the enameling in kabyl jewelry is over 500 years old. the bracelets, fibel, bruchs,necklaces have more enameling because the enameling dont get broken easy as the feet cuffs

  Ah .. that explains their size! I don't think they would have been worn much as they are in fantastic condition. Maybe dowry?  We bought them in Fez, from a man whose father was a dealer, and who had sold these to a Parisienne woman 40 years ago.  She recently returned them to our seller because she needed money:  these were the only jewellery he had in his carpet shop - they were wrapped up in an old rag when I asked if he had Kabyle, so it wasn't just for my benefit. Maybe we should return them to Paris for sale!  They weigh 680gms.

  Any ideas on the symbolism of the silver in these cuffs?  The area they came from ?  Whether they are rare?  All info gratefully received, thanks.

  Fantastic pair.  They do look worn to me or else they wouldn.t hold that beautiful warm glow and the inside cooked gease.
