A silver anklet from kabyle mountains with two coral cabachons.
This is among the pieces i call "my grails", i have been looking for an example since i begun collecting. Only algerian and parisian museums are known to own such a model which is considered to be very early and have been worn before the large cylindrical anklets(later enameled)
As in numerous north african open bracelets the side opposite to the opening is narrower and is almowt half the opening side width

Comment by ayis on May 31, 2012 at 9:42 Yeah very similar to saharan paterns in general. Don't forget that Kabyle speak a type of berber that is closely related to that of south moroccan one and thus old ties between saharan berbers and kabyle do exist even if ethnically they seem distant
