Chinese Child's Lock Pendant

I found this pendant at a flea market, and loved the shape. It is apparently a child's lock pendant, but I'm wondering if it may be a tourist piece since it is not silver and is made of mixed metals. It is on a string of small amethyst beads that may not be original to the piece. Can anyone tell me more about it? Chinese characters on the front. Thank you to anyone who has any ideas!
