  • A set of five heavy repousse work silver Indian or South East Asian buttons. Images appear to be of dancers and drummers. Large, substantial loop shanks. No hallmarks. 1 and 1/2 inches diameter. Certainly pre 1947, probably early 20thc. The Burmese produced buttons in sets of five.  I would appreciate any help here.

  • I think these could have been made for the export trade

  • Apparently these stopped being made around 1930 and similar figures can be seen on silver bowls of the same period.
  • Your conclusions are the same as mine-I have a silver rose bowl decorated in the Swami style and these button designs are similar. However, the rose bowl images are of Hindu gods-these are not, which led me to the conclusion they might be of Burmese origin and made for the European market in the early part of the 20thc.
