  • on bottom of Very Long chain, is this drop & balls... Anyone know anything about this piece? Am I even on correct page now? Its so different, since I last visited! TY in advance for Any Info  this Beauty!!!

  • I bought a necklace, exactly like this in 1976 new in Cairo locally made.  It is silver.  Will place a picture tomorrow.  Mine is with a pendant.

  • Of what stone are the translucent facetted beads - carnelian?

That type of chain is often used for redesigning, incorporating older beads. The fancier silver beads could be Yemeni Bawsani work.

  • Yes these are faceted carnelians and the work is usually Egyptian. This type of chain is also found in Syria and Palestine.
  • Thanks, Nada. Do you know if the chain is being made currently?

  • Hello Frankie,
To my knowledge, this is no longer made. The "youngest" pieces are from the 1970s.
  • Thanks, Nada, good to know.

  • I tried to post a Palestinian example here, but can't for some reason, so I will do that on a new post.
  • I have posted  some minutes ago a necklace from Cairo from 1978.  with a note to Frankie and Nada, I wonder if they overlooked it?

  • Hi Ingrid,
Yes I think that the 1970s is when it stopped being made. Too hard to make I would guess. Here is a link to photos I've just posted for the same type of chain from Palestine:
