Ikat Textile from Flores

The diamond symbol is equivalent to the mamuli ornament found in that region of the archipelago. The pattern is made by tying coconut husks to the cotton warp fibers. These resist the dye. The dyes typically include natural compounds such as indigo and tumeric. The process of making an ikat is very labor intensive.
