These are so beautiful. They resemble the shape of the glass ones that were pressed in a mold. I wonder which came first, the glass or the silver?
very lovely! I wish the picture was a Little bigger! They look fabulous! Love them! I just noticed that you bought them years ago....... I have not seen such ever, and I stayed during two of my stays in Timbuktu with Mauritanians in their houses. They are really Special!!!!

how is the backside? Plain or also decorated? (Sorry, I just wonder, because they are really very Special and rare).

Just to let you know that during my visit to the Yves saint laurent/ pierre bergé exhibit on berber women in Paris, there was a huge picture of a possibly "TAMANART" woman wearing one of these on her braids!!
A shock for me and a delight to finally know more about these exquisite ornaments!
TAMANART is one of those moroccan presahara secluded oasis forming a string of inhabited settlments on the southern edge of the ANTI ATLAS, it is very close to "Foum el hissn"
These oases have very interesting jewelry, basically a mix from northern sophistication (from the mountain such as enamel or niello) and rich pattern from the Saharan cultures with the odd sahelian ornament prooving very ancient ties
