they remind me a little of the Thai spirit houses in front of their normal houses. (Have lived approx. one year in Bangkok), although those in Thailand look different (new and all golden).

The biggest ones of these I have seen that are usually later are about 12 -15" Tall. some used like that on alters.

they are either worn (see straps) across body or arm and or on an alter. They usually had a small painting and or small terracotta diety inside with Tibetan prayers.  It is about 7" H

very interesting item. (I know nothing about them - being a shrine, is it big? and is it Tibetan too?)
