  • I don't know what they are, but they're fun.  For some reason, they remind me of some face beads I once saw that I think might have been Greek.

  • like Anjali. Can you tell us more about this Piece?

  • I bought them from a shop in Islamabad. The shop owner only told me he thought they were very old and that he has added the other beads to lengthen and separate. He did say he bought them they were on a

string of some sort.I have some of the Phoenician Funny face pendants I purchased in Kabul. They don't look the same.I saw on the internet similar to these, and it said Roman 1st century AD.Only similar though,,nothing as the same. This dealer in Pakistan had some very small black disc beads with the yellow faces,,looking just like these faces.

  • thanks, sounds very fascinating! The additional beads ( the green ones, I suppose) - if they are not glass, they could be Malachite (if less hard than glass). Looks very nice. good to know that the face beads are old, have never seen such befoe. I assume they (the face beads) are to protect (like eye beads......just guessing)

  • The spacer beads look like malachite,,but there is fake everything now days.I wish someone could help date the face beads,as I am unsure. The face beads, all have very large mouths, like ancient beads do,but they are faking that aspect also in some reproductions. If I get any more information from other sources i can email you,if you are interested. My address is cclintonw@yahoo.com

  • all the beads are fake

  • I am not doubting your comment about all being fake,I would just like to know from what are you basing this opinion Ait? It can be very possibly the truth.

  • Sorry to disappoint you Ait,all of the beads are not fakes,I broke one of the face beads,,,and it is really glass, all the way through.

  • :-)  you dont have to feel sorry and i m not disapointed, i know what i wrote and still keeping it.

    ofcourse it is glass
