  Is boulder opal good thing?Is wood opal good thing.I don't see any blue in the beads I have.A couple of the beads look greenish.

  Hi Claude.  I couldn't tell from the picture whether those were veins of opal in the stones you have, but I sent the picture of the boulder opal just in case, especially since the matrix looked  similar.  The opal in boulder opals isn't always blue like in the picture.  The stone in the photo particularly is a particularly beautiful one. I purchased some boulder opal beads from an Australian dealer some years ago and they had flashes of various color scattered throughout.  I had found a beautiful small cabbed boulder opal at the Tucson show, had it set, and made a necklace for a customer.  I just love that material.

  Oh,,by the way,I am just so happy to know what they are now,even if they are no bright and shiny blue streaks.The guy was correct that sold them to me,,"they are very old,,I guarantee".For once at least!

  Hi Claude.  Just to be clear, I don't really know what they are.  Mine was just a guess because I wasn't sure what those streaks were at the top.  There are people much more knowledgeable than I on this site.  I wish I could be of more help.

  Thanks for the clear Anjali.I have been looking at websites about wood opal,,and have discovered quite a lot about.It really makes me think in fact that these are actually beads from a limb or branch.They are naturally shaped,as no one could shape beads like this,NO ONE,and thats my story,,and I am sticking to it.I do believe its petrified wood,possibly not opalized,,but old branch or limb wood.
