This old piece is a typical Libyan Necklace which used to be worn for occasions ' not for every day use'. Good quality silver, gold plated. Hall marked in Tripoli.

  • These kind of pieces range in time and in their detailed craft work. But in general this design has sustained for a long time. This specific piece is not among the oldest styles, but old enough for collection.  I am hunting for an older one which may take time before I can track one.

  • At the time these were made , the municipality of Tripoli was very strict in issuing hall marks . The silver has to be 900/1000 , or it will not be stamped. Therefore most of the old silver was genuine in its content. But it became a good source  ' as a raw material' for modern silver jewellery, which has resulted in melting all the older pieces to get enough material for mastersmiths. This is unfortunately the case all over now.
