Many thanks for your comments ethnic adornment. Yes, the beads are silver. This is how the Rashaida are or have been dressing. You can see photos of women and girls wearing such head covers and veils on the internet. As with everything else, traditional dresses and jewelry is less and less worn these days. It is also rare to find authentic antique beaded Rashaida embroideries these days. I always go to the same shop to buy them. He continuously buys such old fabrics and has them thrown (yes, definitely thrown) onto 3 shelves, where one has to dig in. I sometimes see only a small corner of what seems to be an antique beaded fabric. When pulling, I then discover the beauties... or not...

This is a wonderful piece! Are the beads made of silver? Do you know if it has a cerimonial use or just for the shake of adorning the child?
