Ethnic Jewels

An appreciation of ethnic jewellery and adornment

This is an exceptional high silver bracelet from Ta'if, located in the Makkah province, hence, in the Hejaz. Ta'if was long known to be the garden of the Hejaz, being located on over 1,800 meters altitude. Among others, Ta'if was for over 3 centuries under Ottoman rule and there was also a Jewish community living there, which migrated from Ethiopia. An interesting place, which I am longing to visit....

Dear Thelma,
Many thanks for your message. This bracelet is an extremely rare Saudi piece. This is a smaller, I believe half Saudi Rial silver coin. I will ask a professional to let me know more about it. With kind regards. Peter

Interesting history. And beautiful work. What is the coin, Peter? Is it a thaler? Your visits to the Riyadh souks have become very fruitful and a source of great anticipation!
