  • Dear Angelo; to my knowledge, this is a Bulgarian buckle - not high silver though. I have seen such examples before but have to add that yours is exceptional. I will be at my home at the end of this month, check this in my book and let you know. With kind regards. Peter
  • Thanx Peter …yes indeed came from Sofia…a seller on ebay ..it was not expensive at all...

    tested X-rays almost 500 silver

  • Angelo may I ask where did you get the x-ray testing done?  I have suspected for a long time that the Ottoman, Greek, and Bulgarian silver-colored pieces have substantial silver content.  I am interested in taking a sampling of different types of low silver to get x-ray tested.

  • Hey Lynn ..at a jewelry store in the diamond district in NY …..many of them have it ..

did you find a place in WA where you can test silver ??????

    Kisses

    Angelo

  • No, but I was trying coin shops and pawn shops, I'll try calling diamond district type places.  The closest I have found is in San Francisco.  Thanks for the tip!!

  • ;-)   btw ..when i can see some of your new acquisitions posted ???

  • Dear Angelo, thanks to you I have now found an x-ray tester in Seattle which I will visit in the next few weeks.  I have seen very similar buckles offered by Greek sellers on eBay, so Greek could be another origin.  I posted a few more photos for you Angelo.  :)

  • ;-)))) glad you found the tester shop..i've been to seattle ..Great city!!!

yes..i checked my paypal account ..didnt come from Sofia ..but from Greece ..we are talking about the same seller … i archived the buckle as Balkans ( Bulgaria/Greece/Turkey)

I got it for few $$ with a half bronze buckle from Serbia ,,,, i like them ,,,but also the history behind of those turmoiled countries !!!

Now i'm debating to get a heavy lazeem yemen at 200/ 260$$ I have 2 already …maybe i should wait for the one with corals???  Can we talk about prices on here ???

    Kisses

    Angelo

  • Hi Angelo, that's great you were the one to get the buckle!  It's a small world for collectors.  :)

I don't think there is any rule against discussing prices.  :)  For the Yemeni lazem you are considering, I think the opportunity depends on how fine the work is and whether it is high/medium/low silver.  You will probably pay more for one with coral, although they occasionally come up mislisted at a great price.

  • Thanx Lynn…..this Lazeem i like very much…might be low silver …but the simplicity... and still imponent ... that strucks me ………i'll post a pic !!!
