Thank you for this interesting read. I vaguely remember visiting the agate mill and the stone mines in Idar-Oberstein as a child.

Does anyone know how to distinguish agate milled in Idar-Oberstein from agate imported from India?

Another article that is really fascinating. This magazine is getting more and more a jewel. There is a Website of Idar-Oberstein in German with some parts translated into English.I am putting in the link here for the English part if someone is interested in further reading, it shows photos of the historic Agate mill and the precious Stone mines (which seem to be the only ones in Europe open for the public).
