Yes Ait, it can be a colorful silk or for the not so wealthy it will be thin colorful cotton.

@Rabah: Yes, I think these are Indian silk Saris. Indian textiles are quite popular in the Horn. In Eritrea some ethnic groups (e.g. the Saho) are wearing a particular Indian cotton print in a variety of colours as their tradtional costume. Will post a picture when I have some more time...
