A Young Dancer from Nias with Jewelry

Traditionally such headdresses would have been made of gold sheet metal. This young woman is wearing one made of gold-colored paper. The beads and bracelets. also traditionally fabricated in gold, are now made of electroplated aluminum or base metal alloys.

The bodice of her dress is fabricated from palm fronds.  Red and yellow are apparently the preferred colors for Nias dancers, since most of the other photos of modern dancers that I have seen are in the same colors.
