Yemeni silver hirz necklace?

I just bought this necklace from a woman on a classifed ads, but she did't knew very much about it. She said it was berber, and that she had it from a jeweller in Spain. I made some research and found that it is probably from Yemen. I tried to search any info about the beads, but could'nt find that exact pattern.

The necklace is pretty big and heavy, it weighs more than 500 grams. The big oblong case measures 10 cm and the beads at least 4 cm long. There appears to be gold washed at some places...

Any comments/insights about this are welcome!

Thank you very much in advance.

  • Those round beads are very finely made. Congratulations. Interesting Thelma that you can pinpoint the town! Many thanks.

  • Thank you very much Thelma, I'll try to get that book to know more about it!

  • A very beautiful old necklace  ..... and yes, you are right.... It comes from Yemen ... from the town of Ibb in the southern mountains. A picture of a similar set of beads can be found on page 130, in Marjorie Ransom's book 'Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba'. You are lucky!
