An appreciation of ethnic jewellery and adornment

From your private collection or from that of a famous museum. It may also be a picture of another member here or one that you just pickec from the net or from a book (with all due respect to copyright).

That makes you drool and may even haunt your dreams.

Simple or exremely elaborate, it can be widely available or the last survivor example of its type....

Post yours here and maybe drop a line or two, to say why do you like it among all the others

Cheers

Re Harald, there is a Mongolian headdress currently for sale on trocadero.com -- no price specified which is always terrifying, but many pics and contact information.

hi Patricia,

Thanks for your 'tip'. I've seen the Mongolian headdress on trocadero you mention. It's nice, but actually not that desirable for me. Somehow it just doesn't do it for me which I imagine sounds weird given my love affair with all things Mongolian. The shop is actually located in Amsterdam which is an hour away by train for me. I should visit the shop someday to see it in person. Linda has recently posted some fabulous sold items, including some Mongolian headdresses I really like.

Hello Howay where is the shop in Amsterdam!! I am going tomorrow to Holland so maybe I like to pass by and just have a look!!

I remember long ago i saw also a shop in the centre near the Jaren who was selling ethniC jewels!!

hi Carry,

this is the website of the shop where you will find their address: http://www.galeriegeluk.nl/

i'm sure the stuff they have is very expensive, but work a peek just to satisfy the curiosity.

The piece of jewelry I am always searching for and have never found is a silver and niello necklace made by a Circassian silver smith from Jordan.  I have a double dress from Salt and very much would like a piece of jewelry to go with it.  I worked in Jordan off and on for several years, but found these pieces to be very rare.  Not surprising since Jordan was only a collection of small villages at the time the old Circassian smiths were making their jewelry!

This is really difficult, if one has to choose ONE only!  But, I made my choice. It is this bracelet from the Sahara (Mauritania), which I am wearing every day, no matter where I go. I love it so much, that I secured the lock with a little wire, because I tend to lose just my favourite pieces while wearing them ..........

Lovely - I was very tempted by one like this when I was in Morocco a few months ago.  It's still on my wish list!

Julianna

@Thank you Julianna. It was on my wish list for years...... until I got it at last! It was not cheap, but a good buy and as I said, I wear it all the time.

Howah, you chose (to my taste) the most beautiful items!

At

It is quite a nice idea to ask members about their favourite one-piece ! A really good subject for discussion. I enjoy seeing the selected pieces!
