I just discovered some silver beakers/cups from Ethiopia I wanted to share here. They are apparently made by an Armenian siilversmith in Ethiopia (we had discussed about this before) - I wonder you would know more about such items, Ingrid, and when and were they were made? 1950s? 1960s?

Wow, that's great information Ingrid. How interesting also to know that Armenian silversmiths are still working in Addis, probably all through the difficult times and that now a young woman carrying on the family tradition.
I really like the simple elegance of these pieces (I didn't buy them) and look forward to seeing yours...
Hi Betty, I just saw it today. Yes these are little wine cups, and there is also the beer mug. And a little tray with a salt and pepper shaker in the form of tukuls. And there were also silver (or silver plate) tea spoons. They were (are?) a Armenian family Savadjan, who made and sold these. I bought quite a number of them because they made lovely wedding gifts. They were also one of the first to put the name and a silver stamp on their items. The shop sold fancy table ware, imported, wedgewood, rosenthal, etc. dinner services. Unfortunately their shop was nationalized in 1975 during the revolution time. There were other armenian jewelers but their shops were small and they were not disturbed. I know the young armenians are still in Addis as silversmith, because uptil 2 yrs ago I had an order made of beautiful traditional silver beads. In this case it is a young woman. quite costly but top work. I will place a photo of their items, which I still have. Gr. Ingrid.
