Berber necklace, Draa valley

Hi, As a new member of the forum I just wanted to share from my collection one of my favourite, a Berber necklace of the Draa Valley: amber (central amber  64 x 35 mm),  coral, coins, amazonite , concha schell disks, shell hair beads corner less conical silver beads, silber hair ornaments, silber Berber bicone beads, Hégiré calendar 1313 coins, etc. 18th – 19th century, original stringing.

  • Wellens unfortunately I cannot help you with a detailed and definitive response, as I am still a learner, particularly when it comes to this regions jewellery.  However in saying that it does indeed look Moroccan to me, most probably from the Anti Atlas region (there are even certain elements within your necklace that would suggest that it could be from the east / south east Anti Atlas region).  

    However, I would feel far more comfortable if someone in the real know how would give their final input.  

    In the mean time, I can suggest that if you are already on Facebook, this very same Ethnic Jewellery Forum, also has a FB page (just click on this link)  where I am finding members are being very active (so you might like to join the group there and then post your necklace there again).  

    The other thing that I can suggest, is the following Pinterest board (again just click on this link) as it might provide you with some useful cross references.
