ethnic jewels

An appreciation of ethnic jewellery and adornment

Greetings from California!

I recently acquired some of the beads in the attached picture.  There origin has been mentioned as Mauritania or Yemen, and the gold color possibly due to actual gold content.  I was hoping that someone would recognize these and provide more information.  Also, I would appreciate any information or pictures of these types of bead used in ethnic jewelry from their location of origin, wherever that may be!

The shown examples are about 10 x 12 mm and roughly shaped like barrels.

Hi Rosanna

I know these as Old Yemen beads RARE

Also found on another beadsite "Yemen bronze beads that have a very bumpy (but not rough) texture. These lost wax cast beads are up to 100 years old"

Thanks Kathleen!  Here are pictures of the rest of the beads that appear to be of similar origin.

They are really rare and beautiful! Congratulation for your adquisition!

I have a few strands of these Yemen brass beads and use them in my jewellery designs.  They are lovely, very heavy and some almost like silver, not brass.
